"On December 7, PETA activists will be hosting a demonstration at a Brian Boswell's Circus show in Johannesburg to protest against the cruelty to animals that is inherent in the circus industry. We want circus attendees to know that these industries force wild animals to perform stressful acts like riding bicycles and jumping through fire; that trainers use whips, muzzles, electric prods and bull hooks; and that many enslaved animals suffer from behavioural stress, physical harm and discomfort. These animals are often not provided with veterinary care, exercise and sufficient space. In their real homes, these animals would be free to walk and run, choose lifetime companions and raise their families.
For this demo, we'll have activists dressed in prison suits to let everyone know that animals in circuses are imprisoned for life, even though they have committed no crime, and that no one who cares about the welfare of animals should support cruel training methods, the use of chains and shackles to confine elephants and the imprisonment of bears, big cats and other animals in putrid railroad cars and barren steel cages! We'll need as many volunteers as possible to attend the demo and dress up in prison costumes, which will be provided. We need your help to make this demo successful!
