Feel the fur rise...

I received some more info about the fur protest in Hyde park on next week Saturday and decided i should share, this is the email i received from Anneke, the head of Fur Free SA -

Hi everyone,

It is now only 8 days before our HUGE 'Fur Free Friday' demo. We are confident that the event will be well attended by the press, and we really need you to be there in your numbers to tell the world

WE SAY 'NO!!!!!!!!' TO FUR!

When? Saturday 27 November 11:00-13:00
Where? On the islands in front of Hyde Park

We will ask you for final RSVPs early next week, so that we will have a good idea of how many of you we can expect.

Right now however we have the following updates and requests for you.

· We still need the following (please contact Tricia at tricia@furfree.net if you can help):
- Artists/make-up artists to help us with painting faces and bodies beforehand
- Someone with a bakkie/trailer to fetch a cage in Midrand and have it at Hyde Park around 10:00 on the day (It would be great if the sides of the bakkie/trailer could be lowered to reveal the entire cage during the demo.)
- Someone to buy drinks and chips for the media and bring it to Hyde Park at 10:00 in an icebox/cooler bag
- Someone to give a member a lift from Pretoria

· Those of you who are going to be placard-bearers and/or flier distributors, please wear only BLACK or your Fur Free 'logo' T-shirt if possible (not the 'poster' T). If you can paint your face like that of a fur animal OR wear an animal mask, GREAT! (We will send you templates of animal faces next week.) Please bring your own placards and be at the islands in front of Hyde Park at 11:00. See bottom and attached examples for placard ideas, or Google some more.

· Volunteers being painted red or being 'caged': Please be at the 'Fur Free house' at 20 Portland Ave, Craighall Park (see attached map), any time from 08:30 but no later than 09:00. If you're going to be a 'red', please wear red, beige or white underwear only. You could also wear a red vest and red skinny shorts. (Remember to apply sunblock beforehand!) If you're going to be 'caged', wear black clothes only.

· Bring your dog! (See attached pic of demo doggie!)

Some ideas for wording:

- Fur hurts – walk away from it!
- Wear your own skin!
- Fur animals skinned alive!
- Stop the torture – don't wear fur!
- Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly people!
- They don't wear us, so don't wear them!
- Fur is dead!
- Fur is cruel and old-fashioned!

COME AND HELP US MAKE THIS AWESOME FOR THE ANIMALS!!!!!

See you there!!!!
anneke

So i hope you all felt filled in a bit...let me know what you are doing, whether you are getting painted red or sitting in a cage or even holding a poster...I'm really interested in what you are going to so.

Any who, this was a short one but I'm a busy bee today, i did think that a good piece of information would make up for it :)

Vegans are people too....

So I'm going to my work Christmas party this evening and to my surprise ( sarcasm ) they won't have anything for me to eat...it's really irritating that they don't cater for me....here's a news flash from all us Vegans to all the omnivores out there....

WE LIKE TO EAT.
WE DON'T LIKE TO FEEL EXCLUDED BECAUSE OF OUR DIETARY STANCE.
WE DON'T LIKE TO EAT ONLY SALAD. (Seriously you wouldn't like to only eat salad at a restaurant...it's a freaking starter, a side dish, not a meal! )

Right now that, that is out of the way let's continue...

So basically I'm going to have to grab something to eat before i go....i really don't like going to work functions, all the people i work with are not like me at all....they all eat meat, they all live a high class life and lastly, they all care too much about the human race but hardly for the animal kingdom. So yup i really don't fit in....plus who can have drinks and have fun whilst being well behaved as if you were at work. Let your hair down, is not a saying i will be practicing tonight....

Plus i have absolutely nothing to wear and I'm desperately trying to find something that will work...it has to be not that flashy yet evening like...arg and i was so set on wearing this dress yet Matthew says it's to flashy, so now I'm stuck.

But enough about this event...

Aren't any of you excited for Xmas?

I saw this story on the news, where all these penguins were dressed up in these lil Christmas outfits, like Santa and his reindeer...it was SOOOO cute. I don't feel that dressing an animal in a human outfit is a crime....if you aren't hurting them and they aren't unhappy i consider it fine...my lil Chihuahua Blossom loves wearing her jersey during winter...it keeps her nice and warm.

Think about the cuteness...AW...plus when she wears her jersey she gets so much attention! Loves and rubs and squishys....really spoilt!

So my final words are -

TRY CATERING FOR ALL PEOPLES NEEDS AT A WORK FUNCTION, YOU'LL BE SURPRISED AS TO HOW MUCH THEY WILL APPRECIATE IT....PLUS KARMA WILL BE ON YOUR SIDE - SHARE THE LOVE, CAUSE IT'S NEARLY A TIME FOR RITUALISTIC GIVING...GET PREPARED :)

FEEL THE FESTIVITY.

The Fry Frenzy...

I am absolutely astounded by the fact that people don't respond in a yummy sense to a vegan stressing about the fact that her meals are enjoyable!
But i have found the key to people opening their minds when it comes to veganism......ready to hear the key?

FRY'S

Don't know what it is....SERIOUSLY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
The people that started Meat Free Mondays where a company named Fry's, they produce a whole range of vegan/vegetarian meals all made out of soy...to name a few -

Chicken schnitzels
Hamburger Patty's
Sausages
Beef Strips ( great for stir fry or wraps )
Vienna's
Chicken nuggets
etc.

Now don't get freaked out by the words chicken and beef it really has nothing of that in it....

So i decided to cut up one of my sausages at a braai and give them to people for testers....note they were all meat eaters and the lil sausage sitting on the side of their plate filled with gross meat was kinda funny...
And i swear to moses ALL OF THEM LOVED IT!

So now i have managed to get two people to eat Fry's and with my persistence the list will continue...
The fact of the matter is that people think vegetarians and vegans only eat vegetables and salads and because of that they refuse to even try anything Vegan...but now since the Fry's tasting matter i have noticed that that is the key to having people give up meat, just let them taste something yummy that is Vegan and voila they are interested.

So my lil post today is to say thank you to Fry's because with out them i wouldn't be able to have a sausage at the braai or a hamburger on Fridays and thanks to them i don't feel so left out when i go out and eat with others...

And remember Meat Free Mondays! Just one day can have the biggest impact that you would never imagine...JUST ONE DAY!

Have a wonderful evening since you get to snoogle in bed with this beautiful rain from mother nature.

P.S. Don't eat lots of green grapes in one sitting, it doesn't get you drunk but it sure as hell gives you that same hangover yucky feeling in your tummy...really...it's a useful tip :)

The start of a new week...

Hi all

I'm really sorry that this post hasn't been up, my computer has been freaking out and i'm not sure what day this will be posted on - my apologies in advance.

Well we've had some crazy topics last week! From animal testing all the way to weird meat eating concepts.

But today I'm going to leave us all on a happy note as per usual....it's always great to start the week on a smiley thought...when it comes to animal abuse it's all doom and gloom and rightfully so, but sometimes an activist just needs a breath of fresh air to push further.

So lets talk about something breezy :)

The anaconda is the largest snake and can reach up to 10metres

B -

ages., When a family member dies they morn and then cover them with branches, when a baby elephant
cry the entire family runs over to it.

F -
Frogs drink through their skin and need it moist all the time, sometimes they shed their skin and even eat it ( gross)

G -
Giraffes have thought to be mute but in fact they communicate by low key groans which a human cannot hear. Tick birds are giraffes friends they sit on their back and eat the pesky insects in return for their food they alert the giraffe when there is a predator near by.

N -
Numbats have sticky tongues and only eat ants.

O -
Ostriches lay the biggest egg in the world and is the equivalent of 12 eggs.

P -
Except for the opossum and the kangaroo the panda has the smallest mammal new born.

Q -
Quails nests are on the ground in vegetation and they can lay up to 12-15 eggs per clutch

R -
Rabbits aren't rodents and can live up to 8-14 yrs.Rabbits teeth grow up till the day they die and their ears regulate their temperature.

S -
Seals can dive to about 100feet under water and can stay there for 30min. They have more blood for their size than any other land mammal. A seals milk is 45-50% fat.
