Yup my heading is true....you know why, look at my posts from the beginning and then look at them now.
I have succeeded, not fully yet but i sure am on my way.
I write this to tell you that EVERYONE can do this. Really if you think you cant, read my posts again. I'm a 1.66cm, 23yr old, female, blonde and i did it. Seriously it's not that hard to create change, and it feels great!
And the best part...I'M NOT DOING THIS FOR ME :)
....You may be asking what the smileys are for, well look what happened with PnP and The Vegan Society and Vegan SA.
This is what i received this morning...

Thank you for your email Kelly Leigh
It might be an idea for The Vegan Society to make an appointment to see one of our Senior managers to discuss how we can help vegans with food choices. If this is a possibility, let me know and I can set it up for you.
We do have a qualified dietician at our Johannesburg Office, Teresa del Fabbro, who is always ready to assist customers with their eating plans.
I have been through this before as my 9 yr old son decided he was to become a vegan when I felt sure he didn’t even know what veganism was. But he stuck to his guns for three and a half years. It was a huge spiritual shift for him and for us as a family.
Remember I am here if you need more assistance.
Kind regards and have a happy weekend.

Hi Michael
It's great to know that you have had a Vegan situation close to home. You should tell your son, that what he did when he was nine was not only brave but admirable. It takes a strong person to 'stick to their guns' as you would say, and it's even harder for parents to be understanding and open minded about it. So i take my hat off to you.
You sound like you have a very lovely family.
After listening to your idea about meeting with one of your senior managers, i thought it was great, i'm am currently contacting them in order to see what they say, but i'm sure that they would be very keen. It's very refreshing to hear that someone is willing to listen to a Vegan.
We are very impressed at the response we are getting from PnP, i have already been contacted on Vegan cleaning aids, which i was very happy to know that you have a 'Green Range' that has all the cleaning aids that one needs and not only is it Vegan approved but it is also not tested on animals. I have also been contacted about the Vegan dog food that i requested, apparently they are busy talking to the stockist and will be going through the regular protocol in order to get it in stores.
I haven't been contacted yet about the others, such as the food. But in this light i'm sure it shall happen soon as your service has given me confidence to say that with belief.
Thanks for all your help. I'll be sure to get back to you soon about the meeting.
Have a wonderful weekend too.
Kind Regards and Thanks
Kelly-Leigh
Then following this with in minutes i received an email from Teresa, great service right?
I then contacted The Vegan society and Vegan SA to find out if they were both interested in attending a meeting with me and a PnP senior manager. You see the more people you get involved the better. We don't want to shine in glory, that's not the point, i say this like thousands of times (ok that's exaggerating a bit) but all i want to do is....Spread The Word..and that's why I'm telling and showing you ;)
This is the Vegan Society's e-mail to me, i haven't checked out the link on facebook yet but I'll do that tonight:

Hey,
Can you tell me more about your group and your campaigns?
Also, would you like to get involved with this: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=148298211870648 (shout if you're not on Facebook and can't view the invite - it's for an animal rights conference in October).

Then i replied and explained the group to him and after that he sent me this:

That all sounds great - you're up to a lot of cool things :-)
Keep us posted about what you're doing and we'll send it out in our bi-monthly newsletter. Also let us know if you're interested in the animal rights conference (once you've checked out the event) and will be sending it out. We're urgently trying to boost confirmed attendance at the moment, as well as locate more speakers, stalls, etc.
Keep it up!A
And now what we have is a bigger network, which means my dream is coming true....we my friends are SPREADING THE WORD!!!!
YAYAYAYAY
We have a chance in doing something that's right, we're the good guys and we are giving those animals out there a small but definite fighting chance.
So as for the things I had a meeting about...those will be posted on this blog and facebook on 12 September 2010, yup that's Sunday.
Wow so that's it...that's my week gone.
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and lets hope we all have sun, i wouldn't mind grabbing a few rays myself :)
I would just like to squeeze in a Happy Birthday to one of my best friends.Shine Candy Cane :)

Hi Kelly- Leigh,
I have been in contact with the owner of Vondis Holistic today he will forward sample stock. Going forward I will set up an appointment with him to see if we can introduce the products into our stores.
Please note this will take some time as we do have protocols and audits that needs to be in place before listing a vendor.
Concerning the other products you enquired, I will not be able to assist you with them.
Regards
Quinton
Great news right!
Ok so that's the update, chat later.

I got more info from PnP today...i requested that they make Vegan dog food available at PnP Brightwater commons....i received an e-mail from a guy in that section and i thought you should read how the company's (like IAMS in this case) lie to people, or maybe they don't even know themselves! I dunno but someone has to tell them so i did!
Why do i always have to be the one to open my mouth? Oh well, if i didn't then i wouldn't be here speaking to all of you.And i wouldn't be helping.

Hi Kelly-Leigh,
Please find detailed information concerning the vegan pet food you are requesting us to keep.
I have spoken to Marlton’s pet that put me on a supplier called Propack. Propack import dog food from the US all three lines contain animal and animal by products. I have spoken to Wendy the sale director from Iams and they do not have such a product. Colin from Iams did also inform me that the dogs coat and skin does go of colour and get flaky.
Wendy stated that it would be best to contact a vet, as dogs need the protein and amino acids in the dog food. I have left messages for both Hills and Royal Canin, they have not replied.
Liza from Nola and Lizette from Nestle will try to get me some sort of document to forward to you informing you of the advantage and disadvantages for not feeding protein based dog food.
The only alternative is for you to cook vegetable-based food for the dog but none of the supplier will recommend it. I also contacted the Pet Food Industry (PFI) and the information gathered is that the risk is to high for the animal on a nutritional imbalance and a metabolic imbalance.
Private individuals do produce small quantities of these types of product but the PFI does not have any factual studies that was done to state that it is the correct feeding program and that it has no risk to it. I also contact a vet in Pretoria, which also indicated that they do not know of a product like this the vet then referred me to a kennel master / vet nutritionist, to which this particular vet, is registered.
He also said that he knows of no product on the market that will be suitable.
Regards
Quinton

Hi Quinton
I knew something like this would come up. There is a huge debate on this topic and it was a very big weighing decision for me...however i am Vegan so with it comes many rules.
The reason why i changed my dogs diet is because with being Vegan we also don't use products that are tested on animals as it stands against our beliefs (might sound strange to you, but it does most people )
Hill's - They do test how ever its supposed to be humane ( not to sure)
Royal Canine - Tests
Iams -Proctor and Gamble - Tests..........................This one is the worst...
That's the information on it:
http://www.iamscruelty.com/...........
This is the recorded video in their laboratories:
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?video=iams&Player=wm
Eukanuba - Proctor and Gamble - Tests
Purina e.g. Alpo- Nestle - Tests
Science Diet - Tests
They all test on animals, and not in a friendly, try this, manner. They savagely hurt animals in order to test whether or not it would be suitable. They cage the animals and test on them and when they are finished they euthanize them. There are many other alternatives to testing these foods that are even more accurate however the animal testing way is cheaper.
If you are looking at the quality of these foods keep in mind that they don't use top A grade meat that humans eat in order to make the pellets. They may even say all these things on the packet but if you look into it, it's all advertising.
Majority of vets don't recommend it as it involves alot of dedicated work, it's much easier to hand your pooch a bowl of pellets than it is to make a all rounded meal...I'm very dedicated to animals and my chihuahua Blossom loves her food, she's healthy and happy, i even make her home baked dog biscuits.
I went to two vets and asked them about giving my dog vegan food and they told me about meal planning as you suggested, i did that for some time until i found a dog food brand named VONDI'S....they make normal home made dog food with meat as well as vegan dog food. It's frozen in square packs.
http://www.vondis.co.za/
I get mine from Fresh Earth in Emmerentia and i normally buy 2 packs a week, however there are other places that stock it too, this is only Gauteng:

I understand that maybe you don't want to consider it because of the idea you have behind vegan dog food. Like i said I'm used to being questioned, it comes with the life style. However i can assure you that this brand is very reputable. I'd love it if you could stock it as it would make life so much easier for most of us who travel to Bryanstan or Emmerentia. But if you feel other wise, then i understand. We'll travel then.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to find out all of this, I'm very surprised at the response I'm getting from PnP, it's making me and others change our perception on your company.
I'm still awaiting a few other requests i have made, but I'm not sure that it is in your department.

2008 has past..HELLO!!
Well this morning i was on a mission to find a place to have a Christmas lunch. To my surprise i could not find 1 Vegan restaurant that was open on 25 December.
So the impression I'm getting is that all meat eaters can have an awsome Xmas while us Vegans have to eat a salad...It really frustrates me that most restaurants don't have a vegan menu but i suppose it's due to lack of education and consideration and just plain blindness. Think of how much stuff I've told you about that you didn't know...I'm betting quite a few of you have never heard of some of this stuff.
I feel like going to restaurants and telling what they can feed me! But i cant...not right now i have so much on my plate...hehe excuse the pun. But it would be great if you guys did...just go to the manager next time your there crunching on your salad (minus the feta) and ask him this..."WHY DON'T YOU HAVE VEGAN MEALS ON THIS MENU?".....simple huh. Just ask the waiter to call the manager to your table.
Next step is to make them feel poop that you are sitting there with out choices, so no matter what they say next, make sure you say this in the conversation..."I LOVE COMING TO YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AS I LOVE THE SERVICE AND THE PLACE BUT I ALWAYS FEEL SO UN-CATERED FOR! IT'S SUCH A PITY, THAT'S WHY ALL OF MY FRIENDS HAVE STOPPED COMING HERE."....seriously make them believe you love going there( which should be the case otherwise why do you go there?) and that you're always made to feel unwelcome by your tummy growls ;).....oh and the friends thing is important too, cause here how it works in customer land...if you have a crew you will be more valuable, because to them.

Last step.....take the managers name, if he is nice or not and if he seems to want to address it, give him your contact details and get his....if not ( and you really like the place) then check on the web who owns it and try to get as close to him to discuss it...there has to be someone higher than the stinky non responsive manager!
SIMPLE AS VEGAN PIE :)
Never lose your temper, just sound very aggravated if need be. You want to sound concerned for the business and for those friends of yours ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On my last note: Has anyone seen any Vegan society's hold functions??
Well as far as i know the answer to that is No...i cant find anything on the web except one thing...it's awsome and it's held at Roxy's nightclub in Melville, WOOHOO....and the great part is....it happened in 2008!!!WTF?
It's on this website...in fact do something - check out all the connecting websites on this address that I'm giving you and you will find one thing that they all have similar...NOTHING IS UPDATED.
All the fun stuff is dated back when moses was an appy in the bush shed! ( that's old British for a very long time ago : )
What the hell happened? I'd love to go to a Vegan club party, wouldn't you?
I'm still in the starting phases of this Vegan thing so i cant just make a party...I'm going to have to tell the existing groups to hold a party.
Don't believe the outdated story...check it out:

So a party huh?
That's one of my next moves...Celebrating Being happy and healthy!
What better reason to party?
P.A.R.T. WHY.......CAUSE WE CAN :)

PnP Bring it on
Heya
So i need to tell you something about me...I'm very persistent and i believe that things will only change if you persist on trying to change it. Nothing changes with out a fight.
This is where you cross the river!
When i was 11 i lived in Henley-on-Klip in fact that was where i was born. Yup that's right I'm a deep south gal :) We lived in a circle shape road and there was a huge piece of land in the middle of all the houses which were all in a circle, it was so big. We had one huge slide and one see-saw, everyday i used to go and sit at the top of the slide and wonder why is it that they had such a big piece of land but they had NOTHING on it? Stupid as far as i was concerned.
N.B. This was our corner cafe and bottle store.
So i asked my mom why there wasn't anything in the middle and she said that she doesn't really know. Well i wasn't satisfied with that answer and at 11 i was damn sure that i was going to tell someone that i don't like the fact that it's empty and since i played there all the time (which shows my dedication) i sure deserve to have a little more to play with, why not, it was not like they were using it!
This was the river and the end of some of our gardens.
So my mom told me i would have to make an appointment to see someone at the municipality to ask them to change it. So that was it, i picked up the phone and asked to have an appointment with someone that will hear my complaint to our road - the circle. They said i could have it in 2 weeks time, i told them that that was unacceptable as it is very urgent ( children don't like to wait ) 2 days later i was sitting in a mans office with a picture i had drawn with my ideas on (not the greatest picture i might add ) I told him that it was inexcusable why you are depriving children of fun and that the fact that the land was just sitting there was just plain SAD.
My mom had to stay in the meeting with me because i was too young to be there in the first place but she never said one single word, she just sat there with a smile on her face. After my long speech the man looked at my mom and asked if i was serious and why it is that i came all the way here to tell him this...I'll never forget her only words of the meeting...she replied..."Because she wants this for all the children and because when she wants something she wont stop until she gets it and believe me she's VERY serious"
Yup and that was me at 11!
Ok so i have recently started going to PnP at the Brightwater Commons since we have moved and i was always a Steve's spar kinda girl.
At this PnP it has a few Vegan goods - like egg replacement but as for that it's mainly for health junkies. I want to be able to go to PnP and buy my Vegan cheese and bread. Why not right?
Think about it...in the old days EVERYTHING was separated and allocated to one store like - the pharmacy, they only had medicines not sweets and baby bottles....just medication, and the haberdashery - it only had material - butcher, only had meat. They never had a place that you could get everything there.Until there was a supermarket.
Hell now you can get meat to finisher and sports gear plus shampoo and cheese all at one store. Why does this work so well? Because convenience is key!
For people with a vegan life- it's not convenient, we have to go all over the show and for some of us these 'boutique food shops' are totally out of the way!.
All i want is to simplify a Vegans life just like I'm trying to do for all of you information wise.
Basically - I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO MY LOCAL SUPERMARKET AND GET MY VEGAN FOODS AND GOODS FROM THEM. Simple huh?
So i decided to ask the supermarket that i shop at PicknPay Brightwater Commons.
I went to the manager and told him about my circumstance and asked if he could stock a few things for Vegans, he said that he would look into it. 2 weeks later...nothing on the shelves...i then went to another manager and this time took his email address....1 week later no response. I decided to lay a complaint and find someone higher than those to tossers. I then got through to the big guys....hell I'm not going to explain all this - ok so the following are the emails that were sent back and forth:

Hi Kevin
I am a customer of yours and i spoke to you about trying to get more Vegan goods incorporated with PnP Brightwater Commons. I hope this has jogged your memory and that you remember me.
You asked me what sort of products i was looking for, well I'm not to sure if you are clued up on Veganism, if your not it's not a problem as most meat eaters aren't. But we don't eat any animals - meat, chicken, fish, lamb, pork, bacon, and no animal bi-products - milk, eggs, honey, cheese etc....It may sound like a lot but we do have a huge selection of food we can eat, however usual supermarkets hardly stock food for us, that's why we have to go to specialized stores which is silly because your stores are loosing those customers...
Personally i have always found this silly as people seem to think that Vegans are in the minority group, however there is a large network of us. We have a lot of sites on the net and lots of followers, if PnP Brightwater Commons can manage to bring in more Vegan goods then I'm sure we can organise placing your PnP on our websites and telling people that you have our food.
I must commend you on the excellent organic range that you have in your health shelve near the vegetables, i do most of my minor shopping there, as i am not only a Vegan but an organic one.
However i don't understand why it is separate to the other products in your store, for example...your organic Cous Cous should be with the other Cous Cous on the other shelves...you can use or lose this suggestion but i used to go shopping at Steve's Spar before i moved to your area and the one reason why it was constantly busy was because people thought that they could get everything there since there was such a huge selection...there was a bit, however what made the selection look so large is that, for example, all cereal was together, including the diabetic as well as organic and with the normal Coco pops, that way the shopping experience was more about...choice, and that's a very good feeling to have, choice shows that the shops accommodating for everyone. Hence - why go anywhere else for something when you can get EVERYTHING at one store. Convieniance is key, but I'm sure you know this. Plus by keeping it on one shelf, you are only approaching that market, if you are not a health junkie and you don't have dietary requirements, you would see the health section and skim past where as if it were next to your Kellogg's , you might go for the healthier choice and you'll know that it exists.
The things that i would love you to stock, to think off hand is:
Tofu
Vegan Mayonnaise
Soy cheese
Vegan dog food
Whole wheat Vegan bread
Nori ( sushi seaweed wraps )
More organic Fruit and Veg
Vegan shampoo's, conditioners, and toiletries eg.Facewash, facecream, tampons, sanitary towels etc
Vegan cleaning aids.
Organic cotton wool
All of these things do exist and if you would like me to show you who stock them and even get you in touch with suppliers that is no problem. Maybe you might have some of your own! I'm willing to do the leg work in order to better your store and my life. There are many place that have these things. Even other stores stock them too.
If some of these exist then please can you tell me where they are in the store.
And as for advertising like i said the websites can help as well as if you put signs in your store saying that you stock vegan products.
I really hope that you look into this and get into it soon, as i feel everyone should feel welcome at PnP and I'm sure this will shine a new light and open a new avenue for PnP Bright Water Commons.
Kind Regards and Thanks
Kelly-Leigh
That was what i sent to the manager after no response for a week this was my complaint:

To Whom it may concern
I am a Vegan and have just moved to an area near to the Bright Water Commons, so instead of shopping at Steve's Spar i now am relocating to your branch.
I spoke to one of your managers briefly about trying to get a few Vegan products in your store, however i got an impolite response and was told that he would 'pass on the message'. Unfortunately i didn't get a name.
Two weeks later i decided to go again, this time i spoke to a gentlemen whose name was Kevin. I asked to send him an e-mail as i found that the first way i went about it was ineffective.
It's been a week and i still haven't received a response...
I'm 23 and i feel that due to my age i am being ignored. I'm attaching the email that was sent as proof.
All I'm trying to do is to get more Vegan products in your store and am offering not only more customers but also free advertising. This is all about just being able to come and shop for my weekly groceries at a friendly PnP that considers me and others in the Vegan society. And provides for us.
I never had this problem at Spar and still I've always have thought very highly of PnP yet now i am being lead to think otherwise.
I found this email address on the hello Peter website along with a lady that helped with another scenario her name is Amina Bey. I originally went on the site to lay the complaint however i thought it would be best to try and use this e-mail address as my last attempt.
I'll be awaiting a response.
