I'm back...:)

So firstly let me tell you where I’ve been…

I got blocked, yup…some punk thought it was a good idea to complain about my blog and then blocked it was…

Now I’m back up and running and have a huge confession to make…

I went vegetarian for a few months!!! Yes me….

I feel like a huge hypocrite but I was craving milk products like there was no tomorrow, so I just sucked up my pride and ate it…did I feel bad – YES…100% YES.

Then all of a sudden…I started to have less energy, I started to feel tired and I never slept well, even though I was tired. I picked up soo much weight and I just felt terrible.

I went to an acupuncturist cause I just didn’t feel balanced anymore and you have no clue what he told me…a DR told me to go back to being Vegan cause it healthier for me!!! Can you believe it, out of all people, a person with a doctorate in medicine gave me the – “You should go back to being Vegan speech” … apparently he thinks I might be slightly lactose intolerant…so here I am back in the vegan section of life starting it all up today…

I’ve cleaned out my pantry and fridge of all dairy – ( I wasn’t eating eggs, so there was none of that in my cupboards ) and I’m going grocery shopping today.

You know I kept on saying how important it was to be vegan…my stance on animal activism and being an environmentalist stayed it was just my tummy that screamed for cheese, yogurt, ice cream and cakes…thanks to my tummy, I’m back to being unhealthy and sicky…plus the guilt really gets to you.

Any who…just thought I’d drop a note to say hi and to keep you all posted on whats up.

Oh…before I forget…PnP on William Nicol stocks vegan cheese and vegan cream cheese…so for u vegans out there who needs a fix…PnP has it for you…

Back off!!

So I got this comment on my blog which I did not allow because I thought it was way to trashy for these pages.
It’s strange how when people eat meat nobody at the table starts bitching and moaning because of the fact that that person eats meat, yet if you do not eat meat people always have negative comments to make, like –
It’s not healthy being vegan or vegetarian.

They try and con you by saying what about this point of view and so on and so forth…like arguing against your beliefs
Just some F.Y.I – I really don’t care what ignorant comment you are about to make, but either way, keep your uneducated point of view to yourself because no matter what people say, I’m still going to munch my veggies
A lot of the time people comment on the fact that my dog eats meat (another ignorant comment on what my dog does I should to…pish )

Well I did put my doggie on a vegan diet but she didn’t like it, she was a good sport and tried her best but it just wasn’t for her…there are many doggie diets that owners put their pets on but for my Blossom, she wasn’t interested – so I try my best to buy doggie food that isn’t tested on animal – ( no doggies don’t munch some food in the test station and say that they do or do not like the flavour, it’s a hell of a lot worse than that…)

But I do try my best and always give her vegan soy snacks, like a vegan sausage which she loves….
It’s not about what you don’t do but what you do.
If you recycle plastic and paper but not cans and food scraps then are you still a recycler – ofcourse!! Trying a lil is better than not trying at all
Any who guys, I’m off

One itsy bitsy thing...please.

Urgh

I don’t know if I have ever told you that I get e-mails constantly from Fur Free South Africa…

Well they have recently come out with a new campaign – “Fur is Red”

It’s pretty gory but at the end of the day people need to face the facts…

You know I always get asked, ( being a vegan animal activist and all ) if I crave meat and cheese etc

You know to be frankly honest – YES ….I bet you didn’t want to hear that from me but it’s true, I do miss prawns with buttered garlic sauce or shrimp cocktail, a nice piece of medium rare meat from Spur or even some KFC chicken pops and boy oh boy I miss cheese so much!! Blue cheese, parmesan, chedder…Lindt chocolate or even as simple as yummy yogurt or a McFlurry from McDonalds.

I do really miss all of these things, but at the end of the day, all I miss is the taste…that’s it, just the taste.

If I had to think about what I am eating and where it came from and also what industry is providing it for me then things get complicated. I can’t think after years and years of not eating these things that I can put anything in my mouth that has a face. Really, I even get sick from watching the circle of life in action on the national geographic channel.

I started off being vegetarian, cause my theory was that I didn’t think that people shouldn’t eat meat I just didn’t believe in people over populating and creating such a huge demand that we have to mass produce animals in order to support our eating habits, plus we were ruining the earth in the process…so I stayed clear of all of it. Years later I found out what happens in the milk and egg industry, so I automatically cut that out….believe me it’s been really hard, but you learn and grow so it’s eventually worth it.

A struggle, yes, a test of my conscience, sure, but direly difficult….NO.

I even cut out all the products I use that are tested on animals, that was tough too, finding a decent razor was a mission…but where there is a will there is a way.

Plus I’ve even been warned by doctors that I need to eat fish…I’ve got bi-polar so they are very pushy on there omega oils and fish oil is the best so they try their best to push for me to eat meet as it will help make me less depressive….don’t get me wrong, I don’t walk around depro, it just helps if I become like that.

But I’ve stood my ground; hopefully it doesn’t bite me in the butt in the long run!

So the reason for this post…

You don’t have to go crazy like me and jump into the deep, you can cut out eating meat on one day…if every person cut out meat for one day of the week there already would be a huge difference! (just like meat free Mondays by Fry’s )

Or even if you change your shampoo to one that is not tested on animals.

All of these things help.

So my question and plead to you is this –

Change one thing in your lifestyle that you do now that will benefit someone other then yourself, someone you have never met, someone who doesn’t have a voice, someone who you can not only change but save a life.

One thing is how I started, and it is that one things that drives me everyday.

One thing.

Blossom my lil Chihuahua :)

So I haven’t written in forever, mainly because there hasn’t been any good info on animal rights recently, just a huge hype about the seal hunt in Canada and Namibia, plus I’ve been super busy, life wise.

Candice Bender one of our fellow colleagues in Spread the Word, has now officially left SA and is currently in London….wow, how I wish to travel again…She’s definitely sparked something in me…

So basically this post won’t be about anything urgent or of much importance, it’s just a quick update of a hello.

It’s getting chilly these days, so I’ve wrapped my lil Blossom (my Chihuahua) in a cute pink playboy jersey…I must admit I do like to dress her up, she loves it because people give her so much attention when she’s in her lil outfits…although when it comes to winter and her jersey, she’s a very happy bunny cause she can keep all warm, she loves it.

Chihuahua’s are generally lovers of the sun, she sits outside in the sun all day long, so when it comes to winter and the warmth a welcoming jersey is defiantly up her street, she’s actuall’y quite spoilt, I even put her blanket over the heater for a few minutes before I go to sleep so that she can snuggle up all nice and warm, plus she sleeps inside, on the couch! I insist on that. She doesn’t like those cute dog beds that you get she love a continental pillow and since it’s a pillow and not a bed, I refuse to let her sleep on the cold floor, it’s a bit of a mission because I’m always cleaning the couch just to be on the safe side that there is no hairs.

Plus yesterday I gave her a candle lit, bubbled doggie bath…like I said SPOILT….
I just love her a lot so I feel a lil bit of spoils, is ok.
I haven’t heard to much in the animal world but I am listening out so if I hear anything, I’ll let you know.

So basically to cut this short, this is all about my lil chihuahua Blossom and to let you know that their breed is not yappy and not aggressive and that all they need is lil spoils.

Hugs and Kisses

Yay….It’s Valentines Day! Seriously how luvy dovy is this day…ahh,( sigh of romance )

I’m such a hopeless romantic, and this day is filled with that alright.

Although on another hand, if you are single and hate this holiday it’s totally understandable, so my lil solution is – adopt an animal…really.

All types of animals will show you love all the time and believe me you will never feel lonely again…plus on Valentines Day, you’ll have someone to cuddle with 

When I was little my mom always, on Valentines day, put a lil note and a lil heart shaped choc choc…Every year she did it, even when I was in high school. A simple thing like that meant the world to me; I can say I never have had a day where I wasn’t loved. The reason for me saying this is, that I believe that you must past on the love, even if it’s just a small note…and this applies to animals as well…maybe a biscuit, or, yes - yes….a Greenies Bone bar….

I haven’t come across dogs or cats that don’t like Greenies…now not these other knock offs, in a packet with different sizes, labeled – Greenies…they have for cats an dogs and they are so healthy, Blossom ( my lil one ) loves it and it really helps in cleaning her teeth.

There are so many reasons why 14 February 2011 is a special day; they have so many theory’s as to why this day was invented…

A priest – a lover – jail – mystical woman….and so it goes on and on and on. To me it doesn’t really matter where it came from…and that’s not for the sake of being narrow minded, it’s just that humans can never look at something and be happy with the feeling of the day….nope, they have to dissect every little detail until it actually is a bunch of boring pieces…that is the same reason why I didn’t take art.

So just for today – don’t over think it, don’t blame it on the department stores trying to get you to pay more etc….

Just keep your mind open and enjoy every part of this great day so that you can focus on being loved and giving love…

Have a beautiful day and give your lil fluffy ones a huge hug.
Kindness and Hope and a whole lot of squishy Love.

Pick- me-up.

Well, I'm having a yucky day....which is natural as all of us have those days...poof...but when i was all miffy i got this awesome e-mail from Fur Free SA...which made my day a hell of a lot better, so instead of moaning my soul away to you, i am going to save you from it by showing you the PICK-ME-UP letter...

Happy New Year! Not only was 2010 PETA's 30th anniversary year, it was also an incredible year of victories for animals—every one of which was made possible through the generosity of PETA donors just like you. Some of the year's highlights include the following:

NASA halted its plans to use dozens of monkeys in painful and deadly radiation experiments. The decision followed more than a year of intense campaigning by tens of thousands of PETA supporters, including Sir Paul McCartney, Bob Barker, and Alicia Silverstone.

Two large chicken suppliers agreed to switch to a less cruel chicken slaughter method called "controlled-atmosphere killing." The move will potentially spare millions of individual birds the pain of being scalded and having their throats cut while they're still conscious. Thanks to years of pressure from PETA, more restaurants and grocery stores than ever have started to demand that their suppliers use this method.

In the largest seizure of exotic animals in history, authorities confiscated more than 26,000 animals from international animal dealer U.S. Global Exotics, Inc., after a seven-month PETA investigation produced evidence of horrific conditions.

As a result of public outrage generated by a PETA investigation at the University of Utah, legislators in that state voted overwhelmingly to overturn an archaic law that required animal shelters to sell animals to laboratories for use in painful and invasive experiments. Utah was one of only three states that still required "pound seizure."

The world's largest shoe manufacturer, Nike, and its upscale brand Cole Haan announced that they will no longer use exotic-animal skins in their lines. The move came after PETA presented video footage to Nike executives documenting the suffering inflicted on animals used in the exotic-skins trade.

High-end women's fashion retailer Cache agreed to pull all real fur clothing from its stores after PETA showed company representatives footage of abominable conditions on fur farms.

Animal-testing facility Professional Laboratory and Research Services surrendered more than 250 dogs and cats and shut its doors after a nine-month PETA investigation revealed that animals were routinely denied veterinary care and subjected to painful procedures without being given proper anesthesia.

And who could forget 2010's massive oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico? Many shelters in the area were flooded with animals during this tragedy. Pamela Anderson and PETA were able to help by paying for veterinary care for 50 dogs and 30 cats and transporting them to PETA headquarters, where they were all adopted.

These are just a few of the many moments that made us cheer in 2010. You can read more about the inspiring victories for animals that you helped make possible over the last year in our 2010 annual review. Thank you for all that you did to make 2010 a wonderful year for animals. Here's hoping 2011 will be even better!

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. Newkirk

Now it's that a happy note....i think so!

Have a good evening and flourish in happiness!

I suck!

Ok, Ok so i admit i really suck, i haven't written a blog post since the 19th!!!!

But i have Sooo busy, with studying and work and all the other poop it's been a nightmare :(

But i do have brilliant news! Finally a vet excepted me to come for a day on a weekend...hopefully if i'm nice they will let me come back often, HOLD THUMBS!
Phew i must admit i was giving up all hope there for a sec!

They said that i won't be able to see any operations as they normally do all of that during the week, but hey what if  an cruelshall case comes in whilst i'm there and they have to do an emergency operation....Hopefully i will be able to see stuff....I'M SOOOO FREAKING EXCITED!!!

PLEASE OH PLEASE HOLD THUMBS FOR ME THAT IT WILL BE A NICE HOSPITAL AND THAT THEY SAY I CAN COME BACK EVERY SATURDAY AND BE THERE DURING THE LATE SHIFT!.

EEEK....HOLD YOUR DAMN THUMBS!

I don't have a clue on what to wear! Black will show so much hair from the animals so that's not really clever - I can't wear white cause they will show dirt and maybe if stuff is hectic, some blood. So i will have to go for some type of colour clothes that i am not to worried about getting dirty....mmmm

Ahhh - Wardrobe malfunction.

Pish posh - at the end of the day clothes are so irrelavent to other things in life, infact if i could walk around naked i'd be much happier :)

What's the time? Oh hell it's 9am

Sorry guys i gotta dash, study time for me now...

Curious, very curious...

Weirdness unexplained…

Did anyone here about the 3000 black birds ( the ones with the lil bit of red – “red winged” ) fell from the sky in Arkanses?

Then the 80 000 drum fish dying in the Arkansas River?

NO ONE and I really mean NO ONE knows why the birds died, they came up with all these lil theory's but still not one conclusive theory…

Now ok, if the birds started falling from the sky I could maybe say it was a flook but the fact that the fish died straight after that in Arkansas…mmmm….those are big numbers…

But wait there’s more…In Italy 1 000 purple doves also fell from the sky, they say it was linked to poison…

Then in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. 2

MILLION….YES…..2MILLION, spot fish died…they just washed up on shore…just like that…so the theory there is the water was cold or there is to much over breeding…

40 000 Devil crabs lay dead across the beach of the kent coast in England, this reason was of the coldest weather in England in 120 years.

450 red-winged blackbirds, brown-headed cowbirds, grackles and starlings found littering a highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana….the theory here is that they flew into power line ( N.B. Their beaks, backs and legs were broken )

Hundreds of snapper fish found dead in New Zealand, many of them had their eyes missing!! More theory's there…

And scores of American Coots found dead on Texas highway bridge, what scores mean I dunno…

But if you have to think about it… 2124450 lil lives we have lost. That’s freaking sad! And everyone is so non chalant about it. If those numbers were of humans it would be a whole different story!!

I don’t give a damn about these theory's or about the Apocalypse thingy too….everyone must believe what they want, the point I am trying to make is that, the world is taking strain and with that it’s taking millions of lives.

WE SHOULD CARE….we should care a lot, after all we need this world more than it needs us.

How do you care? PASS ON THIS INFO….tell people in your group of friends…let everyone know that this is happening to animals across the world and that we all need to step in and do something about it, and really, even if it starts with sharing info…

SPREAD THE WORD.

Complainers!!

Right - E - O - Do you all remember me complaining about the fact that no one wants to take me on as a volunteer....well  IT IS STILL THE CASE!!!!

Freak a doodle dandy, how many times do you hear people saying, ah if only we had help, bla bla....i mean has any one heard of the theory that...

"MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK "???? ( I made it in capitals because all saying should be, they kinda profound)

Imagine someone phones you and says - "Hi, would you like me to come and help out at your company for free?" What would you think about it? I dunno maybe it's just my perception that someone would be grateful and would take it into consideration and if it's not possible they could give you another number of someone that are looking for help....F NO!!

Obviously I'm smoking dodgy stuff or something like that cause these people are RUDE....seriously, they just hack me off, is this seriously how all vet's act?

I wish i could go onto a South African vet chat room and tell them that they are enough to put anyone off on trying to go into their profession! What? If i don't have fur  on my body that makes it ok to treat me like poop?

NO RESPONSE!!!

I even got asked if i just came out of school, when i said that i was working,, they were all like - OH in a WHAT A LOSER, type of whining way ( damn it's hard trying to explain tones by just words ). A different one said we normally have 16 yr olds that ask us.

Well I'm sorry lil vet world, I HAD NO CLUE WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I WAS 16 APART FROM BIG BREASTED....SO GO AND JUMP IN A LAKE!!!

Hell, people should be like WOW this girl is driven.....let's put this into perspective....how many 18yr olds wanted to become a vet so much and then they finished matric with good marks and daddy and mommy payed for them to go to vet school ( or they got a bursary )....can you think of a realistic number?

Now try this-

I'm 23 turning 24 this year....
I have a T.V and Radio Presenting Diploma
I have worked since i was 16, everyday after school...
I have travelled far and wide and have matured a lot faster because of that...
I have my own apartment...I don't live with my parents...
I pay for my own car insurance, medical aid and food and rent and electricity and hell i can keep on going on but the fact is I'm fully independent i need no help from no one...
I am re-writing my maths and biology matric plus I'm writing science, which is a subject i never took in school, I'm doing this by self studying, straight from a textbook and google ( Those are my teachers :) so basically I'm going back to matric...I'm doing this whilst i am working...
I have a social life ( I'm not one of those closet study, no life freaks )
I have a boyfriend ( the last two is to show that i am balancing many relationships )
I have an activist group called spread the word and we do events....
I go and participate in animal rights demonstrations...

AND ALL I AM ASKING FOR IS TO HAVE SOMEONE ALLOW ME TO COME AND HELP IN THERE VETERINARIAN HOSPITAL...

I'm adding all of that to my life, ( so now you have a bit of info on me )

So come on!!!! Why on freaking earth could anybody think that I'm not serious about becoming a vet....HUH??....Answer that for me....

Remember how i totally freak on persistence and helping and caring....

Well this my fellow listeners is EXACTLY what i am going to do...

NEWS FLASH FOR THE PEOPLE THAT TURN ME DOWN!!!

THE MORE YOU LET ME DOWN, THE HARDER I AM GOING TO TRY - ANIMALS DESERVE RIGHTS LIKE ALL HUMANS DO, AND IF I AM CAPABLE OF HELPING THEIR SICKLY NEEDS, THEN TO HELL WITH IT I'M GOING TO GIVE THAT TO THEM....

SO DON'T LET ME GET EXPERIENCE AND SIT AND JUDGE BECAUSE IN THE END I WILL SUCCEED AND NOTHING WILL STOP THAT.

SO POO TO YOU...MRPH!

This applies to everyone who wants to help animals, most people will be fighting against you but as long as you keep at it, there will always be one happy animal out there.

MWAH

Have a good night, cause I'm off to study...

Kindness and loads of Hope and Wishes
